Box Score Loretto, PA - The Wagner women's basketball team's (5-12, 2-3 NEC) second half rally falls short at Saint Francis U (6-13, 3-2 NEC), 51-47, on Monday night.
Graduate student Julia Fabozzi led the effort for the Seahawks with 12 points and six rebounds. Junior Angelie Ricard chipped in with 10 points while graduate student Taleah Washington added nine.
The Red Flash knocked down seven field goals in the first en route to a 16-10 lead after 10 minutes.
In the second, SFU lead by 10, 24-14, with 5:55 left in the half. The Green & White answered and found themselves with four, 24-20, after a pair of free throws from Washington. SFU countered, taking a 30-20 lead into the locker room.
The Seahawks began the second half on a 6-0 run, courtesy of two buckets from Fabozzi and a layup from Ricard, and by the end of the quarter trailed by just two, 38-36.
To start the final quarter Fabozzi connected on a layup and a jumper from freshman Keana Foz gave Wagner its first lead since the opening basket of the game. The Seahawks went up four, 45-41, with 6:49 left in the game. The Red Flash then knotted the game at 45 and eventually regained the lead, 49-47, with 1:29 remaining. The Green & White turned the ball over on two of their final three possessions granting SFU the 51-47 victory.
The Seahawks forced the Red Flash into 23 turnovers however SFU won the rebounding battle, 47-29.
Wagner takes the floor again on Thursday, January 23 against Mercyhurst at 7:00 PM at the Spiro Sports Center. The Seahawks defeated the Lakers 71-63 in their last matchup on January 18.
