Women’s Basketball Gears Up For Saturday Clash Against CCSU

Staten Island, NY -  The Wagner Seahawks will host Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) on Saturday, January 11 at the Spiro Sports Center. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.

The Series

The matchup marks the 48th meeting all-time between the two squads. The Blue Devils lead the series 24-23 and are 4-1 in the last five meetings.

Scouting the Blue Devils

The Blue Devils are 3-13 overall. They most recently defeated LIU, 52-48 at home on January 9. 

Graduate student guard Belle Lanpher leads the team in scoring (18.3). Lampher appeared in the last six games after missing the first 10 games of the season. Junior Alonna Sellers leads the team in rebounding (6.6). The Knights allowed the third least points given up (67.4) in the NEC.

Making History

Two games ago, the Seahawks set multiple program records, including the most points scored in a single game (113), largest margin of victory (99), most field goals made (42), most assists (37), and most three-pointers made (17).


Welcome Back Taleah

After missing the first 10 games of the season, Taleah Washington made her season debut on December 21 against Columbia. Last game against Old Westbury, Washington set a new program record with a career-high 22 assists. She passed Alice Burgos' 1989 record of 16 assist. 22 assists is the second most all-time in NCAAW history.

Fabozzi Continues To Impress

The Staten Island native scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Old Westbury. 38 points is tied for tenth all-time in Wagner history. Julia Fabozzi scored the go-ahead basket against NJIT to seal the game with 1.8 remaining. The graduate student ranks third in the NEC in points per game (16.1). Fabozzi returns after playing seven games last season after missing most of the year with a knee injury

The Emergence Of Keana Foz 

Keana Foz is averaging 8.0 points over her last five games. Keana Foz holds the top spot in the NEC in steals per game (2.4). Along with being first in the conference in steals, Foz ranks 11th in assists per game (2.4). Earlier this season, Foz was named the NEC's Rookie of the Week. In two games, she averaged 12 points per game, 3.5 assists and 3 rebounds. Foz was also named to the 2024 FIU Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team.

Seahawks Amongst The NEC

Wagner ranks first in the NEC in blocks per game (3.3) and sits at fourth in the NEC in conference record.

What's Next

The Seahawks will travel to  face conference newcomer Mercyhurst on Saturday January 18 in Erie, PA. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
