Towson, MD - The Wagner College field hockey team earned its first win of the season by a score of 2-1 against the Towson Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks scored the first goal of the contest thanks to a penalty stroke by sophomore Charlotte Muller with 11:19 remaining in the second quarter. For the Bremen, Germany native, this marks the second consecutive game in which she has scored a penalty stroke goal.Â
Towson's Olivia Miller tied the game, 1-1, less than three minutes later.Â
In the third quarter, graduate student transfer Cami Valor put away her second goal of the year to grant the Seahawks the lead back, 2-1, with nine minutes remaining in the period.Â
Sophomores Floortje Leunisse and Pilar Lorenzini combined to assist Valor on the play. In total, Valor put four shots on target.Â
The Green & White outshot Towson 4-0 in the third, and earned twice as many penalty corner opportunities throughout the second half of the game.
The Seahawks took 11 shots with nine on target compared to Towson's eight shots with six on target.
For the third straight game, freshman Saar van Dalen spent the entirety of the game in net for Wagner. The Houten, Netherlands native saved five shots for the third game in a row.
For Head Coach Aubrey Mytych, this game marks her first collegiate victory as a head coach. Mytych became the Wagner field hockey program's second-ever head coach prior to the season starting in August.Â
Next up, Wagner will host Bucknell on Friday, September 13 on Grymes Hill. The game against the Bison is set to start at 3:00 pm.
