Football’s Comeback Against Robert Morris Falls Short In 21-14 Loss

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College football team turned a fourth quarter interception into a touchdown to get within one possession with four minutes to play, but it wasn't enough, as Robert Morris hung on for the 21-14 victory on Saturday at Hameline Field.

Sophomore Jouvenson Romulus opened the door for a Wagner comeback with a red zone interception. On the ensuing offensive possession, graduate student Jake Cady led the Seahawks down the field, culminating in a fourth down conversion touchdown to sophomore Teree McDonald

Both teams traded punts on their ensuing possessions, before the Colonials ran out the clock to earn the win.

At the conclusion of the contest, Wagner continued its tradition of handing out two homecoming awards. Graduate student Jake Cady received the James Robb Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the offensive MVP of the game, and graduate student Justin Reilly received the Nick Lia Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the defensive MVP of the game.

Cady threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns, while Reilly recorded a team-high ten tackles.

The Seahawks struck first in the contest on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Cady to senior Mark Didio. However, the Colonials answered back less than three minutes later with a touchdown of their own.

The remainder of the half was deadlocked at 7-7, with a big stop by graduate students Jalin Justice and Justin Reilly late in the half sealing the tie heading into the intermission.

Robert Morris jumped out in front early after a 59-yard gain put them in position to score. Less than two minutes later, the Colonials tacked on another touchdown to take control of the contest.

With the loss, Wagner falls to 2-2 (0-1 NEC). Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Boca Raton, FL, to take on FAU on September 28 at 6:00 pm.
