Rehoboth, DE - The Wagner women's golf team finished in sixth place at the Hornets Invitational. Despite finishing in the bottom half of the leaderboard, the Seahawks put together a stellar final two days.
After collectively shooting a 342 on Sunday, Wagner shot a 321 and a 319 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Excluding day one, the Seahawks performed the second-best out of nine teams.
Leading the way individually was freshman Maria Calleja (+27), who is now 2-for-2 in pacing the Seahawks on the leaderboard in 2024. Steady improvement was how Calleja climbed to tie for 12th place, as she shot an 82 (+11), 80 (+9), and 78 (+7) across the three days, respectively.
Not far behind Calleja was senior Elise Fujita (+29). She too saw improvements each day, finishing with a round three total of 78 (+7).
Senior Ximena de la Garza and freshman Bree Council finished tied for 35th place after shooting a 256 (+43). Both players struggled at some point over the course of the event, but they both thrived at certain points, with Council recording a 79 (+8) on Monday and de la Garza earning a 76 (+5), one of the lowest tallies of the day, on Tuesday.
Rounding out the Seahawk golfers were junior Lillian McNally (+47) and senior Aisha Rodriguez (+52).
Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, September 28 for a weekend trip to Annapolis, MD, for the Navy Fall Invitational.
