New York, NY - The Wagner College women's tennis team competed in the Columbia Invitational Tournament over the weekend where they matched up with Hofstra on Friday, Stony Brook on Saturday, and Cornell on Sunday.
The event featured six schools playing in hidden duals, meaning the matches count for player statistics and accomplishments, but have no impact on the overall team record.
On day 1 of the competition and their fall season altogether, Wagner defeated Hofstra with a singles record of 5-1 and a doubles record of 1-2.
After the Seahawks dropped their first two doubles matches, Jasmine Lin and Jade Schoenfeld managed to get Wagner on the board after winning their first doubles match of the season by a final score of 4-2.
After losing the doubles portion of the match with Hofstra, the Seahawks made up a lot of ground to conclude the match, winning their final five matches to beat Hofstra by a final score of 5-2. Victoria Madail, Paula Ysabelle Uy, Dariana Vera, Jasmine Lin, and Jade Schoenfeld all left their first tournament with a win in singles.
Last season, Wagner dropped a road dual match to the Pride on March 31, only managing to win a single match in the contest.
The rest of the weekend would not go the Seahawks' way as they failed to win another match for the remainder of the tournament, despite forcing two tiebreakers against Stony Brook and one against Cornell.
Next weekend, the men's and women's teams will travel to Binghamton, NY for the NEC Individual Tournament.
