Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Dealt Second Draw Of Season Against Iona

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's soccer team came away with a result on Thursday evening against Iona, drawing the Gaels, 0-0, to move to 0-1-2 on the season.

Both teams put pressure on goal, but neither could capitalize. The Seahawks forced up 12 shots, with three being on goal, while the Gaels had 6-of-10 shots on goal.

Senior Sam Hughes continued to move closer to becoming second in program history in saves with six on the night, including a monumental save in the 29th minute, which saw Iona break off into a 2-on-1 advantage.

Wagner came close to putting the game away in the 84th minute off the boot of senior Claire Janis, but the goalkeeper once again prevailed in the battle of offense versus defense.

In the end, Janis led the Seahawks with three shots, while senior Olivia Rubbo and freshman Deirdre Meberg had two shots apiece.

The Green & White are in search of their first win of 2024, and their next opportunity will come on Sunday against Manhattan. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 am.
