Syracuse, NY - The Wagner women's lacrosse team earned a 13-11 win at Le Moyne in the Northeast Conference (NEC) quarterfinal on Sunday afternoon.
Wagner advances to the NEC semifinal for the 10th consecutive season.
Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead 1:23 into the contest before senior Kelsey Scheidel tied the game 1:08 later. After the Scheidel goal, the Dolphins launched a 2-0 run to take a 3-1 lead. After Le Moyne went up 3-1, Wagner closed the first quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 lead. Wagner had four different goal scorers during the run as juniors Ella Marino, Sophia Colver, and Kendra Hall found the back of the net along with Scheidel. The run lifted the Seahawks to a 5-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
Wagner extended its run early in the second when graduate student Nia Scott and Colver found the back of the net, the two goals gave Wagner a 7-3 advantage.
Le Moyne closed the first half on a 5-0 run through the final 6:00 of the half to take an 8-7 lead into halftime.
Kelsey Scheidel's third goal of the game tied the game at eight before Le Moyne took a 9-8 lead. Both sides found the back of the net once in the third quarter as Le Moyne took a 9-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Green & White outscored the Dolphins 5-2 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Sophomore Kristina Pisano scored a goal with 10:17 remaining to tie the game at 10 and the Seahawks never looked back. Sophia Colver's goal with 8:56 remaining gave Wagner the lead for good, the Allen, TX native's goal gave Wagner an 11-10 advantage.
Megan Greco scored the final two goals for the Seahawks, her first goal with 3:51 remaining gave Wagner a 12-10 lead. After Le Moyne cut the Wagner lead to 12-10 with 60 seconds remaining, Greco finished the game off with a goal with five seconds remaining to earn the win.
Seven different goal scorers combined for 13 goals for the Seahawks as Scheidel and Colver led the way with three each. Freshman goalkeeper Grace DeCarolis stopped nine shots in her first-ever playoff start.
Wagner will advance to the NEC semifinal in a 2023 NEC Championship rematch against top-seeded Sacred Heart on Thursday, May 2 at 1:00 pm.
