Fairfield, CT - Trailing 9-5 with 10:12 remaining in the third quarter, the Wagner women's lacrosse team launched a 5-0 run to take a 10-9 lead with 8:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Sacred Heart scored two consecutive goals in the final two minutes to earn the 11-10 victory in the Northeast Conference (NEC) semifinal on Thursday.
The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead through the first 4:33 remaining, Wagner responded with a 4-0 run led by senior Kelsey Scheidel's two first quarter goals. Wagner took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter before junior Ella Marino gave Wagner a 4-2 lead.
The Pioneers tied the game at four before junior Kendra Hall gave Wagner a 5-4 lead with 5:47 remaining in the first half. Sacred Heart ended the half on a 3-0 run to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.
The Pioneers extended their lead to 9-5 early in the third quarter before Wagner mounted its comeback.
Graduate student Nia Scott got the Seahawks started before classmate Megan Greco scored three consecutive goals to tie the game at nine with 10:29 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Kristina Pisano gave Wagner a 10-9 lead with 8:25 remaining. Sacred Heart tied the game with 2:00 remaining before scoring the game-winning goal with six seconds remaining.
