Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's lacrosse team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest 11-10 to Sacred Heart in overtime at Hameline Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before senior Kelsey Scheidel got the Seahawks on the board with 2:30 remaining in the first quarter.
After the Pioneers scored to make the game 3-1 with 12:13 remaining in the second quarter, Wagner launched a 2-0 run behind goals from graduate student Megan Greco and junior Sophia Colver to tie the game at three. The Pioneers added a goal late in the quarter to take a 4-3 lead.
Both teams found the back of the net twice in the third quarter as junior Ella Marino found the back of the net for Wagner along with Megan Greco, the goal was Greco's second of the game to bring the game to 6-5 Sacred Heart entering the fourth quarter.
After Sophia Colver tied the game at six with 14:13 remaining in the fourth quarter, Sacred Heart launched a 3-1 run to take a 9-7 lead with 6:36 remaining in regulation.
Wagner scored three consecutive goals to take a 10-9 lead with 3:24 remaining. Three different players found the back of the net during the run as sophomore Mia Williams, graduate student Nia Scott and Sophia Colver scored. The Pioneers tied the game at 10 with 1:31 remaining in regulation to force overtime.
The Pioneers went on to win the contest in overtime, 11-10.
The Seahawks enter the final game of the regular season with a 4-10 overall record and a 4-5 mark in conference play.
Wagner will play host to Delaware State on Wednesday, April 24 at 6:00 pm.
