Teaneck, NJ - The Wagner College women's lacrosse team picked up a wire-to-wire 17-9 victory at FDU on Wednesday afternoon.
Wagner jumped out to a 3-0 lead as junior Sophia Colver supplied two goals while senior Kelsey Scheidel scored once. After Wagner took a 3-0 lead, the Knights responded with two goals to cut the Wagner lead to 3-2. The Seahawks went on to add two more goals in the final 3:02 of the first quarter to take a 5-2 lead into the second quarter. Scheidel added her second goal of the game while junior Ella Marino found the back of the net.
Wagner outscored FDU 3-2 in the second quarter, junior Kendra Hall and graduate student scored for the Seahawks in the second while Sophia Colver added her third of the game. The Green & White took an 8-4 lead into halftime.
The Green & White opened the second half on a 2-0 run as Kelsey Scheidel completed her hat trick and Nia Scott netted her second goal of the game. After FDU scored back-to-back goals to cut the Wagner lead to 10-6, Sophia Colver netted her fourth goal of the game to push the Wagner lead to 11-6 entering the fourth quarter.
After the Knights cut the Wagner lead to 11-7 early in the final frame, the Seahawks launched a 5-0 run to grab a 16-7 lead. Graduate student Megan Greco led the Seahawks with two goals during the run. The run propelled the Seahawks to snap a two-game losing streak and move to 4-3 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play with three regular season games remaining.
Sophia Colver and Kelsey Scheidel led the Seahawks with four goals each as Scheidel led the Seahawks with five points as she picked up an assist.
Ella Marino, Nia Scott, and Megan Greco each scored two goals in the win.
Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, April 13 when they travel to Syracuse, NY to take on Le Moyne at 12:00 pm.
