Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team concluded the 2023-24 regular season with a 57-54 loss against FDU on Saturday at the Spiro Sports Center.
The Seahawks finish the regular season with a 7-9 record and will travel to Sacred Heart as the #6 seed in the Northeast Conference (NEC) quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Junior
Melvin Council Jr. led the Seahawks with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore
Keyontae Lewis added 14 points.
Trailing 31-26 at the half, Wagner opened the second half on a 12-2 run, capped by a three by junior
Javier Ezquerra, to take a 39-34 lead just five minutes into the second half.
Five straight points by Council gave Wagner its biggest lead of the game at 44-36 with 13:03 to play.
The Knights battled back, tied the game at 53-53 with 3:31 to play, and took the lead with one minute to play.
Wagner had a shot at the win late, but a last-second shot fell short.
The Seahawks held a 45-28 advantage on the glass and 36-18 edge in points in the paint.
A Tip-off time between the Seahawks and Pioneers on Wednesday will be announced later.
