Staten Island, NY – Wagner College head football coach has announced the hiring of Chris Labidou, Kyle Flood, and Jacob Liebert to the Wagner football staff. Additionally, defensive line coach Derek Getchell was elevated to defensive coordinator.
"We're excited to welcome the newest three members of our coaching staff," Masella commented. "All of them bring a unique perspective from various levels of the game to our program and we're looking forward to their contributions as we prepare for the 2024 season and beyond."
Labidou will serve as the Seahawks' offensive line coach and previously served as an offensive line graduate assistant at Kansas, where he worked closely with current offensive coordinator Stephen Matos. At the FBS level, Labidou also coached at Utah State, where he worked as a graduate assistant on the Aggies staff.
No stranger to the Northeast, Labidou spent two seasons (2019-20) as an assistant coach at current Northeast Conference (NEC) member Stonehill where he served as the director of football operations and offensive line coach.
Under Labidou's direction in 2019, the Stonehill offensive line blocked for the top-ranked offense in the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10), averaging a conference-best 415.8 yards per game (21st nationally), including 193.7 rushing yards and 222.1 passing yards, to ranks second and fourth in the NE10, respectively. Labidou also spent two seasons (2017-18) as an assistant coach at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, where he coached the offensive line, tight ends and halfbacks for the Green Terror.
Prior to his two seasons at McDaniel, Labidou was an undergraduate student assistant at his alma mater Bowie State University.
Labidou is a 2016 graduate of Bowie State, receiving his bachelor's degree in sociology. He was an interior lineman for the Bulldogs, earning all-Rookie Team honors. Labidou earned his master's degree in kinesiology from McDaniel in 2019.
Flood will serve as the Seahawks' safeties coach and arrives on Grymes Hill after playing at SEC member Alabama from 2020-2024. Flood was a member of the Crimson Tide's 2020 National Championship team along with three SEC titles.
Flood was the recipient of the Bear Bryant Non-Scholarship Award in 2023 and a three-time member of the SEC honor roll.
Additionally, Flood assisted at Nick Saban Football Camp from 2021-2023, where he helped lead drills for high school football players attending the camps.
Flood holds a Bachelor's Degree in News Media from Alabama and will pursue a Master's Degree while at Wagner.
Liebert will work as an assistant linebackers coach and video coordinator and arrives on Grymes Hill after playing three seasons at Pace as a linebacker and punter. In 2023, Liebert tallied 35 tackles (13 solo, and 22 assisted) and recorded 1.5 tackles for loss on the season. On special teams, Liebert punted 23 times throughout the season totaling 890 yards (38.70 yards per punt). In the classroom, Liebert earned a spot on the NE10 Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Liebert also appeared in all 10 games in 2022 while making seven appearances in 2021. No stranger to the Northeast Conference (NEC), Liebert started his collegiate career at Sacred Heart.
Liebert earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Marketing from Pace and will pursue his Master's Degree while at Wagner.
Getchell enters his second season at Wagner after coaching the defensive line in 2023.
"Coach Getchell has been a valuable member of our staff," Masella added. "We're always looking for ways to improve as a team and believe that we are a better program with him leading our defense."
Getchell joined the Wagner Football staff in the spring of 2023 following three years as an assistant football coach at Bentley University and two years as an assistant football coach at Dean College.
Getchell's duties at Dean included coaching the defensive backs and serving as the special teams coordinator. He led a secondary that intercepted 22 passes in 10 games in 2018 and helped the Bulldogs capture the ECFC championship in 2019.
Before joining the coaching staff at Dean, Getchell spent more than a decade as an assistant football coach at the high school level. He began his career at Franklin High School, his alma mater, from 2007-11, and later coached at Archbishop Williams High School (2013-14), Braintree High School (2015) and Attleboro High School (2016-18).
At Bentley Getchell served as LB,DL, and Special Teams Coordinator. He coached the NE-10 DPOY in back to back seasons. Cole Mccubery LB 2021, Cedric Dashiel Defensive Line 2022. In 2021 the Falcons finished 9-1 in the regular season and made the DII NCAA Tournament.
Getchell received his Bachelor of Science degree in both special education and history from Bridgewater State University in 2019.
