Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener, 15-9 to Lafayette at Hameline Field on Wednesday evening.
In a high scoring first quarter, the Leopards outscored the Seahawks 4-3. Senior Kelsey Scheidel, graduate student Megan Greco, and junior Sophia Colver each found the back of the net in the opening frame for Wagner. Scheidel also had an assist to go along with her goal.
The two sides traded goals in the second quarter as Lafayette again outscored Wagner 4-3. Scheidel tied the game at four with 13:37 remaining in the frame before Lafayette closed the first half on a 4-2 run. Freshmen Sydney Ecker and Alex Wright each netted their first career goals in the second quarter for Wagner.
Lafayette took an 8-6 lead into the second half.
Lafayette outscored Wagner 3-2 in the third quarter as Kelsey Scheidel and Megan Greco each found the back of the net. The goal for Scheidel gave her a hat trick.
With an 11-8 lead entering the final 15 minutes, the Leopards outscored the Seahawks 4-1 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Alex Wright picked up her second goal of the contest in the fourth quarter.
Wagner will be back in action on Tuesday, March 5 as they travel to Hempstead, NY to take on Hofstra at 3:00 pm.
