Damien Mazil To Join Wagner Men’s Basketball Team

Staten Island, NY – Wagner head men's basketball coach Donald Copeland has announced the addition of sophomore Damien Mazil. Also a member of the Wagner football team, Mazil will join the Seahawks immediately and provide valuable depth.

"We're happy to welcome Damien to our program," Copeland commented. "In getting to know him as a player and a person and talking to our football staff, we believe that he will be a solid addition to the team on and off the court."

A two-sport standout at Atlantic Shores Christian High School in Virginia, Mazil signed with the Seahawks prior to the 2022 season and has appeared in nine games as a quarterback for the Green and White. Mazil threw for a touchdown in his first collegiate start at Stonehill as a freshman while totaling 115 yards through the air.

"Damien has been a great player, student, and competitor for our team," head football coach Tom Masella added. "We look forward to watching him compete on the hardwood in the next few weeks before he re-joins our program for spring practices."

In 2023, Mazil appeared in six games, with the bulk of his action coming against FBS member Navy, where he completed 11 passes for 100 yards.

On the basketball court, Mazil's Atlantic Shores Christian squad had a 15-6 record during his senior season, including an 11-1 record in regional play.

Mazil becomes the first Wagner student-athlete to be a member of the football and men's basketball team since Greg Senat and Shack Scott in 2017. Senat won the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020 year after being drafted by Baltimore in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and spending his first NFL season with the Ravens.

The 6-2 sophomore will wear number 3 for the Seahawks.
