WATCH | Live Stats | Game Notes

Staten Island, NY -
The Wagner College men's basketball team will host Coppin State on Wednesday, December 4 at the Spiro Sports Center. Tip-off set for 7:00 pm on NECFrontRow.

Last Time Out

The Seahawks fell to the Georgetown Hoyas on Tuesday, November 26 by a score of 41-66. Javier Ezquerra led Wagner with eight points as Keyontae Lewis, R.J. Greene, and Zaire Williams each added in seven points. Lewis corralled eight rebounds in 23 minutes of action. Prior to the Seahawks' game against the Hoyas, Wagner had won two straight, defeating Boston University on an R.J. Green buzzer-beating layup before taking down Springfield, 81-46, at home.

Williams Continues To Impress

After scoring a team-high 18 points against Boston University, Williams led the Seahawks with 19 points and five steals against Springfield. Williams added seven points against Georgetown in 23 minutes of action. The Brooklyn native is second in the NEC in steals per game with 2.0. Williams has scored in double figures twice in the last three games, after scoring 10 or more points in his last four games last year before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.

Dimer Badge

Senior Javier Ezquerra has recorded four or more assists in four out of Wagner's seven games this season, including four or more assists in all three of the Seahawks' most recent contests. The San Juan, Puerto Rico is third in the conference in assists per game with 4.3 as well as assist-turnover ratio with 2.3. Last year's Northeast Conference (NEC) assist-leader sits atop the Seahawks roster averaging 8.6 points per game.

The Wagner DNA

Wagner is 15th nationally in scoring defense at 59.6 points per game, which also leads the Northeast Conference (NEC). Wagner allows 6.7 less points per game than any other team in the NEC. The Seahawks earn the second most steals in the conference with an average of 8.57 takeaways per game. With 15.14 forced turnovers per game, Wagner ranks 63rd in the nation in the category.

The Supporting Cast

Junior guard R.J. Greene is sixth in the conference with 5.6 rebounds per game, grabbing nine rebounds against Springfield. Senior forward Tyje Kelton averages 5.9 points per game with 4.6 rebounds. Junior forward Keyontae Lewis is averaging 7.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.  Freshman forward Zavier Fitch made his first start of his collegiate career against Georgetown. On the season, Fitch averages 3.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

The Arrival Of Church

Graduate student forward Churchill Bounds made his Wagner College Seahawks debut on Tuesday, November 26 against Georgetown. The Berlin, MD native played for 11 minutes against the Hoyas, grabbing three rebounds during that span.

The Series

Wednesday's game marks the fourth meeting between the two teams, with Wagner holding a 3-0 all-time series lead. The Green & White defeated the Eagles, 62-59, last year. Prior to last season's meeting, Wagner and Coppin State had competed in a home-and-home series during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. In both games, the Seahawks emerge victorious.

Scouting The Eagles

Coppin State comes into Wednesday's matchup at 0-9, most recently dropping a contest to Loyola (MD), 57-68, on Monday night. Against Loyola (MD), the Eagles were led by junior forward Peter Oduro and sophomore forward Khali Orton who both scored 11 points. On the season, redshirt senior guard Julius Ellerbe III leads the Eagles with 8.4 points per game.
