Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's basketball team dropped its matchup against the Manhattan Jaspers on Wednesday by a score of 80-66.
With the loss, the Seahawks fell to 6-5 on the season while the Jaspers improved to 5-5.
Wagner and Manhattan exchanged the lead eight times during the first half. The Jaspers largest lead in the period rose to seven while the Seahawks could never fully pull away from Manhattan, leading by only one single point separate times during the game.
Graduate student Ja'Kair Sanchez led the Green & White with nine points in the first half. The Syracuse native would end with 16, leading Wagner with the most points for the third time in his last four games.
In the first half, Wagner's bench outscored Manhattan's by seven, the Seahawks scored five more second chance points, and scored six more points off turnovers than the Jaspers. However, Manhattan held a 30-29 lead at half.
Manhattan would go on to shoot 63% from the field in the second half, including a 56.3% success rate from beyond-the-arc with nine three-point field goals. Senior wing Wesley Robinson scored a career-high 20 points with 15 coming in the second half.
The Jaspers' 80 points are the most given up by the Seahawks in a single game this season, as Wagner was ranked the fourth best scoring defense nationally, allowing only 57.3 points per game before Wednesday's game.
Senior Tyje Kelton led the Seahawks in second half scoring, adding eight points during the frame to end with 11.
Graduate student Zae Blake finished second on the team with 12 points. This is Blake's second straight game scoring double-digits after adding 11 against NJIT.
Senior Di'Andre Howell-South and freshman Zavier Fitch chipped in seven points each.
