Miami, FL - The Wagner College women's basketball team wrapped up the 2024 FIU Thanksgiving Classic with a loss to the Sacramento State Hornets.
With the loss, the Seahawks drop to 1-6 on the season while the Hornets improve to 5-3 overall.
The Green & White opened the FIU Thanksgiving Classic by falling to host-squad FIU by a score of 87-52.Â
Against the Hornets, freshman Elle Johansson and sophomore Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor led the Seahawks with 10 points each. Johansson did most of her damage in the second quarter, going a perfect three-for-three from beyond-the-arc in the period.
At the half, Sacramento State held a 41-15 lead thanks to a 48.4% shooting percentage from the field, including a 46.7% success rate from three-point territory.
Modesayor scored one basket in the third and three in the fourth, scoring eight points in the half. Along with her 10 points, Modesayor added three rebounds, two steals, and two blocks across to her stat line.Â
The Seahawks outscored the Hornets 8-2 on fast break points during the fourth quarter.
In the end, Sacramento State would emerge victorious by a score of 73-34.
Next up, Wagner will finish its road stint with a contest against the Lafayette Leopards on Sunday, December 8. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
