Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team will take on Manor College on Saturday, November 9, with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 pm at the Spiro Sports Center.
Home Opener Dominance
Wagner has won seven straight home openers at the Spiro Sports Center. Last season, Wagner earned an 83-48 victory over Molloy, with five Seahawks scoring in double figures on the day.
A Banner Day
Prior to Saturday's game, Wagner will unveil two banners in the Spiro Sports Center, honoring the 2023-24 Northeast Conference (NEC) title and the first NCAA Tournament victory in school history.
The 2023-24 Seahawks became the second team in school history and first since team 2003 to win the NEC title. Wagner also earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory by defeating #16 Howard 71-68 in the First Four of the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
With a thrilling, 54-47, victory over #2 Merrimack, the Seahawks became the first NEC team to win three road games en route to a conference championship, running the perpetual gauntlet by defeating #3 Sacred Heart and #1 CCSU before dethroning the reigning NEC Champion Warriors.
With just seven healthy scholarship players, last year's Wagner team tied the 1999 Mount St. Mary's team for the lowest seed to ever win the NEC title after becoming the first team since the 2005 Seahawks to qualify for the NEC championship game as the #6 seed.
Connect Four
Four Seahawks made their debut in a Wagner uniform in Wednesday night's season-opener at #25 Rutgers. Junior
R.J. Greene added eight points, while graduate student
Zae Blake added eight points. Senior
Ja'Kair Sanchez contributed three points. Freshman Xavier Fitch also saw limited action on the night.
Lewis Picks Up Where He Left Off
Junior
Keyontae Lewis led the Seahawks with 12 points against Rutgers. Last season, Lewis scored in double figures 11 times, including both NCAA Tournament games.
Kelton Emerges On The Glass
Senior
Tyje Kelton grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in Wednesday's opener. This marks the second straight season that Kelton led the Seahawks in rebounds to open the season, as he collected a team-high 13 boards in last year's lid-lifter at Fordham.
The Series
Saturday's game marks the first-ever meeting between the Seahawks and Blue Jays, who compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and Eastern States Athletic Conference.
Scouting The Blue Jays
Manor enters Saturday's game with a 1-1 record after a season-opening win against SUNY ESF and an 83-59 loss to Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday.
