Fencing Competes At The NYU Meet

New York City, NY- The Wagner College fencing teams competed at the NYU meet over the weekend. Wagner's fencing team went on to face NEC foe Long Island University, St. Johns University and host NYU. 

On the men's side freshmen Daniel Ojeda Buitrago captured a win over LIU's Mo Elsayed, a Bronze medalist in the 2024 Paris Olympics, which led the Seahawks to win the epee series 6-3 while also winning in the foil series 7-2 and losing the sabre series 5-4. As a result, Wagner beats LIU 18-9 while falling to St. Johns 24-3 and host NYU 19-9. Sophomore sabre Flavio Vinci recorded a total of six wins during the meet using his respective weapon. 
 
On the women's side, junior Sofia Lopez was the front runner as she recorded six wins in her matches representing the epee squad. Meanwhile, Sophomore Natalja Stiller had a good performance as she won five matches when using the epee weapon discipline. Freshmen Villo Nyiri also recorded five wins when using a sabre disciplined weapon.The Seahawks women's team beat LIU 17-9.  The Seahawks went on to face St. Johns and NYU which resulted in both losses in each category. The record against St Johns was 19-8 and fell short to NYU 20-7. 

The Seahawks will be returning to action on November 23 as they will be heading to Providence, RI to compete in the NFC Varsity Meet.
