Staten Island, NY | New York, NY - The Wagner College women's and men's track & field team split this on Friday, January 19, sending some athletes to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Gotham Cup, meanwhile, field athletes were sent to The Armory to participate in the Ramapo College Opener.
At the Gotham Cup, there were 27 women's and men's teams who competed in the event.
First for the women's team, freshman June Fernandez placed fourth, out of 49 runners, in the 200m. She finished with a time of 25.18, earning a qualifying time for the IC4A/ECAC meet.
The freshman also broke her second school record of the indoor season, besting the previous record of 25.20 which was held by Kenya Hyman. Hyman set this record back on February 10, 2017 at the Fastrack Last Chance meet.
Fernandez also finished ninth in the 400m, finishing with a time of 59.20.
Current Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week Magui Calvo-Jorge placed fourth, out of 20 runners, in the 1000m. Calvo-Jorge finished with a time of 2:57.32 in her longest event of the season.
Junior Ruth-Ann Chambers placed in sixth in the 400m, with a time of 58.60. The Kingston, Jamaica native also finished the 200m in 13th, clocking in a time of 26.06.
Freshman Victoria Ann Dziubela placed twelfth in the mile, out of 34 participants, with a time of 5:19.02.
In the field, freshman Dayana Rodriguez placed seventh out of 23 throwers in the weight throw. Her third attempt went 13.35m, which placed her amongst the top ten.
For the men's side, freshman Paride Iacono took home first place in the 60m dash. Out of 28 runners, Iacono tied junior Diara Guy from Queens (N.Y.), to take a share of first in the event.
Freshman Shawn Keegan and sophomore Arjanvir Singh placed in eighth and ninth place, respectively, in the 400m. Keegan's time in the event was 50.77 while Singh followed behind with a time of 50.79.
In the field, sophomore Christopher Milillo placed first in the weight throw, with a mark of 16.38m. Junior Adrian Pocesta placed third in the same event, out of 20 throwers, with a distance of 16.06m coming on his second attempt.
Sophomore's Julio Martinez and Eskil Njerve placed second and third in the pole vault. Martinez's best attempt was his second, with a height of 4.50m, while Njerve's best attempt was his first, with a height of 4.35m.
At the Ramapo College Opener, junior Agathe Yabit placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 10.42m, and twelfth in the long jump with a distance of 4.99m.
Sophomore Elisa Parazzi finished ninth, out of 17 jumpers, in the high jump, clearing 1.52m on her second attempt.
On the men's side, current NEC 'Rookie of the Week' Jack Mason jumped 7.12m in the long jump, placing first amongst 41 finishers. Mason's jump was an IC4A/ECAC qualifying mark.
Junior Ryan Lane followed closely behind with a distance of 6.97m, and a second place finish.
Junior Kharlin Watkins also finished in second place, out of 11 jumpers in the high jump. Watkins' best attempt came on his second at the 1.92m mark.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Boston, MA for the Boston University Invitational from Friday, January 26 to Saturday, January 27.
