Cheerleading Competes At UCA & UDA National Championships

Bay Lake, FL - The Wagner College cheerleading team competed at the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) National Championships in Orlando, Florida. This marked the first national competition for the Seahawks in their inaugural season since becoming a varsity program.

The Seahawks competed in the Cheer-Game Day / Open All Girl Game Day - Cheer Division and scored an 87.4, which landed them in 8th place out of the 19 teams in the group.

In the semi-final round of the competition, Wagner scored an 86.33 which placed them in 18th place, out of the 36 teams within the division. In first place was West Chester University from West Chester, Pennsylvania scoring a 98.8.

"I'm very thankful for our Assistant Coaches Katie Platt, Alyssa Dunn, and Erica Moore," head coach Tiffany Galbo commented. "We choreographed the whole routine by ourselves which proves enough in itself. Between the support from athletics, the coaching staff, and the founding team, I am confident in the years to come."

The Seahawks' squad, made up of 22 student-athletes, included 13 freshmen. "I knew this was going to be the start of something great," Galbo added. "To have a first year program compete against 37 teams, make it out of prelims into semi-finals would make any coach proud. We accomplished so much as a team."
