This Week In Wagner Athletics: Six Sports In Action As Field Hockey Hosts Home Opener On Friday

Staten Island, NY - Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.

 

Cross Country 

  • Both men's and women's cross country teams will roll into Brookville, NY this weekend for the LIU Invite on Saturday, September 9th. 

  • Last week, both teams participated in the Stony Brook Invite, which saw the men's team place third and the women's finish tied for fourth.

  • At Stony Brook, junior Muhammad Qadri led all Seahawks with an average mile of 5:29.6 and an overall time of 21:08.9.

 

Field Hockey

  • The Seahawks will host its first home games of the 2023 season this weekend at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex. 

  • Wagner will host Holy Cross on Friday, September 8 at 3:30 pm before hosting Monmouth on Sunday at 2:00 pm. 

  • Wagner will be seeking its first victory of the season during the home opener 

 

Football

  • The Seahawks will take on Navy on Saturday at 3:30 pm.

  • The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

  • Wagner fell to Fordham in the season opener last Saturday.

Soccer

  • Wagner will wrap up its non-conference schedule in Newark, NJ on Sunday, September 10 at NJIT at 1:00 pm.

  • Last week the Seahawks went 1-0-1. Madison Carr scored the lone goal and Sam Hughes collected her second clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Iona on August 31.

  • Jess Maraia scored both goals in a 2-2 draw against Binghamton on September 3. The freshman forward is up to a team-leading five points on the season.

 

Triathlon

  • Wagner triathlon will compete in the Duquesne Invitational in Beaver Falls, PA on Saturday to open its 2023 season.

 

Water Polo

  • Men's water polo will head to the Princeton Invite from Friday, September 8th to Sunday, September 10th, where the Seahawks will face off against Iona, LIU, Princeton, and Navy.

  • The Seahawks are coming off a weekend at the Bruno Classic, where the Green & White picked up two victories, including a comeback victory against MIT to open the weekend.

  • Sophomore Laszlo Strasser has been the most active Seahawk in the boxscore after their first four games. The Hungary native scored 11 goals, seven assists, and seven steals at the Bruno Classic.
