Brookville, NY - The Wagner College men's and women's cross country teams rolled into Brookville on Saturday to compete in the LIU Invite that saw over sixteen different colleges all racing against one another.
For the women, the Seahawks placed third overall with a team score of 92. Leading the charge was sophomore Laura Trenado. The reigning NEC Athlete of the Week crossed the finish line in tenth place out of 141 possible participants. The Madrid native ran the 5k in 19:24.4 for an average mile pace of 6:13.
Junior Gia Comerford, senior Ana Blanco Duran, and senior Elizabeth Szambel finished quickly behind Trenado. Comerford finished in thirteenth with a time of 19:30.77, Blanco Duran in fifteenth with a time of 19:39.47, and Szambel in eighteenth clocking in a time of 19:46.06.
Rounding out the scoring for the Green & White was freshman Magui Calvo-Jorge. Calvo-Jorge crossed the tape in forty-second with a time of 20:45.07.
Also competing for Wagner was Lara Jacobs, Peyton Miller, VIctoria Dzubela, Angelina Olah, MaryAnn Walsh, and Isabella Audrin.
Onto the men's team, the defending Northeast Conference (NEC) champions placed in fourth at the LIU Invite, finishing with a team score of 121.
The Seahawks had five participants on the men's side. Leading the way was senior Anthony Bentivegna and junior Michael Ryan. Out of 130 participants, Bentivegna placed fourteenth with Ryan right behind him in fifteenth. Bentivegna's time in the 8k event was 21:05.18, Ryan's time was 21:12.18.
Junior Johnny Sokoll, senior Muhammad Qadri, and sophomore Matthew Seta. Sokoll clocked in a 21:40.54 performance, for an average mile of 5:35.
Qadri placed thirty-first boasting a time of 22:12.46, and Seta crossed the finish line in sixty-seventh with a time of 23:53.78.
Next up, both the men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Lehigh University for the Paul Short Invite in Bethlehem, PA on Saturday, September 30th.
