Sixteen Track & Field Athletes Receive All-NEC Honors

Bridgewater, NJ - Sixteen members of the Wagner College track & field team received Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Conference recognition, the conference announced on Friday.

Along with the student-athletes, the Wagner track & field coaching staff earned its third consecutive Coaching Staff of the Year honor. 

Laura Trenado and Angela Cavalieri both inked their names onto the NEC's All-Rookie Team. Trenado was able to secure her spot by posting a 4:44.61 fifth place finish at the NEC Championships in the 1500m. Cavalieri ran a 20:00.40 5000m to collect her honor.

 

On the men's side, Alex Taddeo represented Wagner in both the 100m and 200m dash. The Staten Island, NY native finished the season with a personal best of 22.03 in the 200m dash.

Taddeo earned Rookie of the Week honors on April 5th after posting the second fastest 100m time in the conference at the time, with a 10.75 at the Colonial Relays. 

Arjanvir Singh, Julio Martinez  and Franklin Simms rounded out the NEC All-Rookie Team for the Seahawks. Singh clocked in a 50.76 400m dash, granting him eighth in the event.  

Julio Martinez found himself not only on the All-Rookie Team, but also earned Most Outstanding Rookie and was placed on the First Team. At the NEC Championships, Martinez posted a 4.65m mark which placed first.

Franklin Simms threw the discus 47.65m to secure his spot on the All-Rookie Team.
 

Gia Comerford ran the 3000m steeplechase in 11:36.41, earning herself a second place finish in the event and a place on the All-NEC Second Team.

Joining Comerford was Luke Cunningham, who ran the 1500m in 3:55.79, clinching silver at the Championships. Jean Uminski's 5000m time of 15:04.35 also placed him on the Second Team, the Paris, France native also represented the Green & White on the first-team in the 10,000m, as well as being named the Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) with a first place finish at the NEC Championships. 

 

In the field, Ryan Lane, Corey Durden and Dario Sina de la Fuente all found themselves on the All-Conference Second Team. Lane further extended his Wagner College outdoor track & field record in the long jump with a mark of 7.39m while finishing the event in second. Durden came away with silver at the NEC Championships, Durden threw the shot put 17.12m and finished .26m behind first place. 

Dario Sina de la Fuente also obtained silver at the NEC Championships. Sina de la Fuente threw the javelin 58.18m to place him on the podium, finishing .28m behind first. He received a rookie of the week honor back on April 12th, for a first place finish at the METS in the javelin.

For the All-Conference First Team, Ruth-Ann Chambers won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14:09. The 4x400m relay quartet of Chambers, Sara Rutherford, Mia Milton, and Ana Blanco Duran also received first in their event, finishing in 3:53.46, outpacing second place Merrimack by almost three seconds. 
 

On the men's side, Uminski and Martinez are joined by Dominic Palermo, Jason Marchese and Michael Pepe to represent the Seahawks on the All-Conference First Team. 

Dominic Palermo finished the 3000m steeplechase in 9:07.69, granting him first place on the podium while breaking a 22-year record in the event at the NEC Championships. 

Jason Marchese and Michael Pepe concluded their seasons at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, FL. Marchese ran a 52.87 400m hurdle for first, while Pepe placed first in the discus and sixth in the shot put, and seventh in the hammer throw. By himself, Pepe scored 15 points for the Seahawks at the conference Championships.  

The women's team finished the NEC Championships in seventh place, scoring 72 points total, while the men's team captured their third straight outdoor title after scoring 166 points total.
