Softball Falls At Saint Francis U

Loretto, PA – The Wagner College softball team dropped its Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader at Saint Francis U on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks fell 5-2 in game one, before losing 2-0 in game two.

Game 1 Recap: SFU 5-2 Wagner

The Seahawks fell behind early in game one and a late comeback attempt fell short. The Red Flash took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added two runs in the second to take a 5-0 lead.

Down to their final three outs, the Seahawks rallied, as senior Alexa Garcia and graduate student Penelope Russ led off the inning with consecutive singles. Next up, freshman Payton Janicki drew a walk, loading the bases for graduate student Makenzie Miller.

Miller delivered, hitting a two-run single to left center to bring home two runs. That's as close as the Seahawks would get, however, as the Red Flash hung on late for the win.

Graduate student Eve Harvey went the distance in the circle and was charged with the loss, striking out four batters in the process.

Game 2 Recap: SFU 2-0 Wagner

Both teams combined for just six hits in game two. Saint Francis U took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and doubled its lead in the fourth.

Junior Samantha Tran and graduate student Mackenzie Vogler had hits for the Seahawks in the contest, but it wasn't enough, as the Red Flash kept Wagner off the board to earn the win.

Freshman Natalie Rodriguez was charged with the loss in the circle.

The two teams will wrap up their series on Monday, with first pitch set for 12 pm.
