Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's tennis team hosted Colgate at the CSI Tennis Courts for a dual against the Raiders on Friday.
Senior Tejasvi Mehra and junior Odeda Arazza picked up singles wins for Wagner, but it wasn't enough as the Seahawks fell 5-2.
The day might have gone differently had the Seahawks converted the doubles point. With senior captain Jai Sai Venkatramana and graduate student Philip Lynch in complete control of the #3 doubles match, Wagner failed to find a service break at #1 or #2 doubles, and Colgate took their first doubles point of the year.
In singles, junior Rodrigo Perez found his rhythm a little too late in a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Colgate's Jack Selati at #1. Sophomore Jordan Hunte took a 5-1 lead over Colgate's Ben Graham at #4 singles, but failed to convert several set points and the match, 7-5, 6-1. Senior Omar Loutfy split sets at #6, but fell in a super-breaker, 11-9.
Next up, the Seahawks play host to NEC rival, Saint Francis University. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the CSI Tennis Courts on Saturday.
