Staten Island, NY and Fairfield, CT - Wagner women's tennis competed in two duals in as many days over the weekend. First, the Seahawks hosted Binghamton at the CSI Tennis Courts, then traveled to Sacred Heart to take on their NEC rival at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.
Against Binghamton, the Seahawks dropped a tightly contested dual against the Bearcats. Binghamton would prevail with a final score of 4-3, which was secured at the #5 singles spot by Abby Ackroyd.
The duo of junior Gabrielle Perraudin and sophomore Paual Ysabelle Uy were victorious in their #1 doubles match, 6-2. But Wagner could not gain the overall doubles point, dropping #2 and #3 doubles.
In singles, junior Tara Dakic defeated Lara Kaplan in the #2 spot, 6-3, 6-4.
After the Bearcats clinched the overall win, Paula Ysabelle Uy and freshman Jasmine Lin won their matches in #4 and #6 singles, respectively, to make the final score 4-3.
The next day, the Seahawks were back in action taking on fellow NEC rival Sacred Heart.
Tara Dakic won the #2 singles point in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. But that is all Wagner could gain against a solid Pioneers team. Sacred Heart would go on to win 6-1.
Next up, Wagner women's tennis will host UNCW on March 22nd at the CSI Tennis Courts this Wednesday, March 22nd. First serve is set for 2:00 pm.
