Hunt's Big Night
In Thursday night's loss at Sacred Heart, junior
DeLonnie Hunt led all scorers with 19 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Hunt paces the Seahawks with 11.7 points per contest.
Dominating The Glass
Coming into the week, Wagner ranked 24
th nationally with 12.68 offensive rebounds per game. The Seahawks also lead the NEC in rebounding margin at +4.2.
Tough Defense
The Seahawks entered the week with 22
nd-best scoring defense in the country, holding teams to 62.1 points per game. The Green and White also came into the week with the NEC's best field goal percentage defense at 42.5%.
The Series
Saturday's contest marks the 118th all-time meeting between the schools with Wagner holding a tight 59-58 edge in the long and competitive head-to-head series between schools separated by just 31 miles.
Wagner has won three of the last four meetings between the two schools, with both teams defending their respective home court last season.
Brandon Brown Continues To Impress
Senior
Brandon Brown once again earned NEC Prime Performer honors last week after posting his sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds against St. Francis Brooklyn.
Brown entered the week as the NEC leader with 9.0 rebounds per game, which ranks 40
th overall in the country and fifth nationally among guards. Against Sacred Heart on Thursday, Brown once again pulled down 10 rebounds.
Taylor's Improvement
Last week's NEC Player of the Week,
Rob Taylor II has been one of the most efficient players in the conference.
Taylor led the NEC in field goal percentage in both December (.667) and January (.612) and has scored in double figures in four of six starts since being inserted into the starting lineup.
Compared to his freshman season, Taylor has more than tripled his averages for both points and rebounds.
2002-2003 Reunion Coming Up
The famed Wagner College men's basketball team from the magical 2002-03 season will be honored during the February 11, 2023, matchup between this year's Seahawks and NEC rival LIU at the Spiro Sports Center.
To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the 2002-03 NEC Championship, Wagner College will welcome back all members of that famous team on Saturday, February 11, 2023, for a special reunion and celebration. A pregame reception will be held in the VIP Room before the main event on the court: Wagner battling nearby rival LIU in an important conference clash that will tip at 1 p.m.
Scouting The Knights
FDU enters Saturday's contest with a league-best 7-2 mark in NEC action and 14-10 overall record. The Knights have won two straight games and are 7-3 at the Rothman Center this season.
