Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team earned a 54-44 win over Stonehill on Senior Day at the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday night.
Prior to tip-off, Wagner honored
Jordan Mason,
Ja'Mier Fletcher, and
Jahbril Price-Noel in a pregame ceremony.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 7-8 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play ahead of the regular season finale on Saturday, with Stonehill falling to 10-6 in league action.
Junior
DeLonnie Hunt and sophomore
Javier Ezquerra led the Seahawks with 13 points apiece, with
Brandon Brown adding nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Wagner came out firing, with Mason sinking consecutive threes to open the game. The Green and White's seniors continue to put their stamp on the first half, as five straight Price-Noel points capped a 10-2 Wagner run to give the Seahawks a 20-12 advantage with 7:33 to play in the first half.
The Skyhawks, who trailed 28-19 at the half, quickly cut their deficit to just four points at
36-32 with 11:33 to play, but consecutive threes by sophomore
Zaire Williams helped the Seahawks extend their lead to double digits at 44-32 with 6:49 remaining, with the Green and White maintaining the lead throughout the remainder of the contest to earn the victory.
Wagner held a dominant 34-20 advantage on the glass while leading for 34:10 minutes throughout the game and holding the Skyhawks to 4-17 (23.5%) from long range.
Next up, Wagner will travel to Saint Francis U for the regular season finale on Saturday, with tip-off set for 4:00 pm.
