Newark, NJ - The Wagner women's tennis team began their 2023 season against NJIT at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility on Saturday.
In singles competition, junior Tara Dakic suffered defeat in the #1 singles to junior Sandra Dzhambazov.
Sophomore Paula Ysabelle Uy lost her match to junior Shalom Salvi. As well as junior Gabrielle Perraudin dropping her match to freshman Laura Wipfli, 1-6, 3-6.
Freshman Samantha Bentsianov battled hard but would eventually lose in straight sets to fellow freshman Irene Cocero, 4-6, 1-6.
To finish singles play, freshman Jasmine Lin would fall to freshman Paula Menedez Alvarez.
In doubles action, Tara Dakic and Gabrielle Perraudin would lose to graduate student Joleta Budiman and Irene Cocero, 1-6.
Samantha Bentsianov and Paula Ysabelle Uy dropped their match against Sandra Dzhambazov and Laura Wipfli. To finish the day of action, Jasmine Lin and Emma Lofstedt were defeated by Paula Menedez Alvarez and junior Shalom Salvi.
The Seahawks did pick up a win by default coming from Emma Lofstedt in #6 singles.
NJIT would go on to win the match by a score of 6-1.
Next up, Wagner women's tennis will travel to Temple University on Sunday for a 5:00 pm match against the Owls.
