Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team earned a wire-to-wire 58-46 win over LIU on Saturday at the Spiro Sports Center.
As part of the game, Wagner celebrated the 20
th anniversary of the 2002-2003 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship team, with Jermaine Hall receiving his NEC Hall of Fame plaque from commissioner Noreen Morris.
A balanced Wagner attack was led by 12 points apiece from junior
Rahmir Moore and freshman
Keyontae Lewis.
The Seahawks jumped out to a double digit lead just eight minutes into the contest, as consecutive threes by freshman
Julian Brown and a layup by Lewis made it 16-5 in favor of the Green and White.
Leading 35-17 at the half, Wagner extended its lead to as much as 23 points, as a traditional three-point play by Moore gave the Seahawks a 40-17 edge with 17:58 minutes to play.
The Sharks fought back and cut the Wagner lead down to 12 points, but it wasn't enough, as the Seahawks hung on late for the win.
Wagner outrebounded the Sharks 37-31 and held a 29-10 advantage in bench points.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Central Connecticut on Thursday, February 16, with tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
