Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team will take on LIU on Saturday, with tip-off set for 1:00 pm.
To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the 2002-03 NEC Championship, Wagner College will welcome back all members of that famous team. A pregame reception will be held in the VIP Room.
At halftime, all members of that team will be welcomed back onto the court where so many memories were made two decades ago for a special celebration and ceremony.
The Season Series
In the first meeting between the two teams, six players scored eight points or more as the Seahawks opened Northeast Conference (NEC) play with a 69-61 victory over LIU at the Barclays Center on December 29.
Wagner has won eight out of its last 10 games against LIU, including a three-game sweep last season.
After two highly-contested regular season victories, the Seahawks earned a spot in last year's NEC championship game with an 82-62 semifinal win over the Sharks in front of a sellout crowd at the Spiro Sports Center in the last meeting between the two teams on Staten Island.
Dominating The Glass
With 12.67 offensive rebounds per game, the Seahawks entered the week ranked 23
rd in the country. Wagner also came into the week leading the Northeast Conference (NEC) with 35.95 rebounds per contest. With a rebounding margin of +5.1, the Seahawks rank 36
th nationally.
Wagner DNA On Display
The Seahawks entered the week 30
th in the country and first in the conference in scoring defense, holding opponents to 63 points per contest. The Green and White also paces the NEC with a field goal percentage defense of 43.2%.
Comeback Falls Short
Junior
DeLonnie Hunt's long three at the buzzer completed a 19-point comeback to send the game to overtime, but it wasn't enough, as the Wagner College men's basketball team suffered a 64-62 loss at St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon.
The Terriers led 45-26 with 11:53 to play in the second half, before the Seahawks started their comeback. Trailing 54-45 with 3:18 to play, a basket by senior

Javier Ezquerra cut the deficit to just one at 54-53 with 1:06 to play. Following a pair of Terrier free throws with three seconds to play, Hunt dribbled across midcourt and tied the game from long range to send the game to overtime.
Brandon Brown Continues To Impress
Against St. Francis Brooklyn,
Brandon Brown led three Seahawks in double figures with 16 points and 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.
Brown averaged eight points and nine rebounds in two games last week. Nationally, Brown entered the week 41
st in rebounds per game and 46
th with three offensive rebounds per game.
Scouting The Sharks
LIU enters Saturday's game with a 1-11 mark in NEC action and 3-21 overall record. LIU's lone win against a Division I opponent this year came on January 26 in a 74-70 win at Sacred Heart.
