Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's and men's track & field teams competed in their second event of the indoor season at the Wagner College Shootout on Friday, December 8 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The Seahawks set new school records in five separate events throughout the evening.Â
For the women's team Junior Ruth-Ann Chambers broke her second school record in as many weeks to begin the day. The most recent NEC 'Track Athlete of the Week' placed first in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.56.Â
Chambers' new record overtakes one that was set back at the 2014 NEC Championships by Samantha Jensen.
Freshman June Fernandez earned her name into the Wagner College record books after producing a 40.30 300m dash. Fernandez placed seventh in the event overall, and first in her grade.Â
The quartet of freshman Victoria Gontoqicz, junior Aileen Hoban, sophomore Saranda Capani, and freshman Aajah Edwards set the new 4x200m relay record for the Seahawks indoor program. The Green & White placed third in their heat with a time of 1:47.89.
Senior Ana Blanco Duran finished seventh in the mile run, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:21.39. The Seville, Spain native ran a 37.89 200m split to begin her race.
Freshman Magui Calvo-Jorge and sophomore Angelina Olah boasted top ten finishes in the 600m run. Calvo-Jorge's time was 1:38.89, while Olah's trailed closely behind with a time of 1:39.77. Both of these performances were personal bests for Calvo-Jorge and Olah.
The Seahawks placed three finishers in the top five in the 3000m run. Sophomore Laura Trenado finished second as she closely trailed Ramapo's Dale Leonard for the entirety of the race, finishing less than one second behind first place, with a time of 10:03.53.Â
Junior Lara Jacobs placed third with a time of 10:46, and junior Gia Comerford crossed the finish line in fifth with a time of 10:21.61. All three Seahawks in the 3000m set personal bests.
In the field, sophomore Julia Garcia jumped 11.14m in the long jump, placing fifth out of the 21 participants. Agathe Yabit jumped a distance of 5.04m for a twelfth place finish in the long jump. Yabit also placed fifteenth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.00m.
In the 4x400m relay, Chambers, Duran, Calvo-Jorge, and Fernandez teamed up to complete the event in 3:57.16, finishing first in their heat.Â

For the men's side, senior Jason Marchese stamped his name on his third Wagner College indoor track & field record, by running the 300m dash with a blazing 33.81. Marchese's run was not only the fastest time in program history, but also set a new Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex facility record for the event as well. Marchese placed first in the event that 115 other athletes took part in.
Marchese was joined by freshman Aleix Fuchs, freshman Shawn Keegan, and sophomore Alex Taddeo in the 4x200m relay. The group would set the fifth record of the day for the Seahawks, after crossing the baton over the finish line in 1:29.93.
Junior Johnny Sokoll stood alone atop 33 other competitors in the mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:14.84. Freshman Nigel Boboli joined Sokoll in the event. Boboli earned himself five and a time of 4:25.03. Boboli ran a 32.49 and moved up four spots during his final 200m split.
Sophomore Hunter Longo placed twelfth in the 1000m, crossing the finish line in 2:36.37.
Freshman Dalil Suluki finished second in his heat, and ninth overall out of 26 finishers, in the 60m hurdles. Suluki's time was 8.64.
Freshman Shawn Keegan joined Marchese in the 300m,. Keegan posted a time of 35.30 and finished in twelfth.
In the field, sophomore Franklin Simms threw the shot put 12.64m on his first attempt of the evening. Simms' mark placed him in twelfth place out of the 43 participants.Â
Sophomore Christopher Milillo and Adrian Pocesta both placed within the top ten in the weight throw. Milillo and Pocesta's best attempts came on their second. Milillo's best throw landed at 17.68m while Pocesta's was 15.25m. Milillo earned fourth while Pocesta received eighth. Both Seahawks came away with personal bests at the Shootout.
Freshman Khalid Brown cleared 6.68m on his first attempt in the long jump, granting himself eleventh in the event that hosted over fifty other athletes.
Current NEC 'Rookie of the Week' Jack Mason finished fourth in the triple jump after posting 14.37m on his second attempt. Mason was .01m from tying the current school record in the event, but his jump will be one of the top in the conference thus far. Junior Kharlin Watkins would finish the high jump in seventh, after clearing a mark of 1.95m.
The sophomore duo of Julio Martinez and Eskil Njerve placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the pole vault. Martinez's highest height cleared was 4.50m on his first attempt, meanwhile Njerve posted a height of 4.35m on his third attempt.
Next up, the Seahawks will be back in action on Friday, January 5 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the 'Wagner College Invitational'.
