Women’s Basketball Set For Two Games At The Hawk Classic

Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner College women's basketball team will play two games at the Hawk Classic hosted by Saint Joseph's University, the Seahawks will begin the tournament against UAB on Wednesday, December 20 at 1:00 pm.

About The Hawk Classic
This will be the 28th edition of the Hawk Classic, which started in the 1990 season. This will be the first time Wagner is competing in the Hawk Classic.

Tournament Schedule
The host Saint Joseph's will open the tournament against New Hampshire at 11:00 am on December 20 before Wagner takes on UAB at 1:00 pm.

The winner's of the opening games of the tournament will meet on December 21 while the loser of the games on December 20 will also meet on December 21.

Last Time Out
Wagner dropped its second consecutive non-conference contest with a 72-50 home loss to Maryland Eastern Shore on December 16.

Junior Semie Brar led the way offensively for the Seahawks with 15 points on 3-7 shooting from three-point range.

Semie Brar Continues To Impress
Semie Brar has tallied over 15 points in three games this season. The Fresno, CA native tallied a career-high 26 points against Iona on November 27.

Brar ranks eighth in the Northeast Conference (NEC) with 11.3 points per game. Brar's 1.89 three-pointers made per game ranks third and her 32.7 three-point percentage ranks fourth in the NEC.

Brar was named an NEC Prime Performer for the third time this season after her efforts against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Newcomers Making An Impact
Along with Brar, a number of newcomers have made an impact throughout non-conference play. Freshman Kiera Edmonds ranks first in the NEC with 2.56 offensive rebounds per game. The Brooklyn, NY native ranks fifth in the NEC with 6.7 rebounds per game.

Graduate student Taleah Washington ranks fourth in the NEC with 3.13 assists per game, Washington has recorded at least four assists in four games this season.
Washington has also scored in double-figures in three out of the last four contests.

Defensive DNA
Wagner ranks 105th in the nation and first in the NEC with 9.0 steals per game, the Seahawks have tallied at least six steals in eight out of nine games this season.

The Seahawks' 29.3 three-point percentage defense ranks 129th in the nation and first in the NEC.

Scouting The Tournament Field
Wagner's first opponent, UAB, is sporting an 8-2 overall record entering the Hawk Classic. The Blazers are riding a two-game winning streak entering the tournament. UAB has three players averaging double-figures as Mia Moore leads the way with 18.4 points per game. 

Saint Joseph's will host the Hawk Classic and welcome New Hampshire in the first game of the tournament. The Hawks have a 9-1 overall record after beginning the season 8-0. The Hawks' lone loss of the season came against #11 Utah. Saint Joseph's was picked second in the Atlantic 10 as three Hawks earned Preseason A-10 All-Conference honors.

New Hampshire enters the Hawk Classic with a 5-6 record. The Wildcats are the lone team besides Saint Joseph's to compete in the Hawk Classic, compiling a 1-3 record in the tournament. No stranger to NEC opponents, New Hampshire is 2-0 against the NEC this season with wins over CCSU and Stonehill. Sophomore Avery O'Connor leads the way offensively for the Wildcats with 9.7 points per game. 

What's Next
Following the Hawk Classic, Wagner will wrap up non-conference play at the Spiro Sports Center when they welcome Saint Elizabeth on December 30 at 4:00 pm.
