Men's Basketball Hosts NJIT On Saturday

WATCH | Live Stats | Game Notes

Staten Island, NY -
The Wagner College men's basketball team will take on NJIT on Saturday, November 25, with tip-off set for 1:00 pm at the Spiro Sports Center.

Home Sweet Home

Saturday's game marks Wagner's second home game of the season. With the victory over Molloy, Wagner has now won seven straight home openers at the Spiro Sports Center.

Dominating The Glass

With 14 offensive rebounds per game, the Seahawks lead the Northeast Conference (NEC) and rank 46th nationally.

The Seahawks held a 44-39 edge on the glass against Fordham, tied for the most rebounds against a Division I opponent in the last two seasons. Wagner's five blocks against the Rams were also the most rejections against a Division I opponent since recording seven rejections against Mount St. Mary's in 2022.

Taking Care Of The Ball

With nine turnovers per game, Wagner leads the NEC and is 21st in the country. The Seahawks' turnover margin of 4.5 ranks 43rd nationally.

The Series

Saturday's contest is the 24th all-time meeting between these schools with the Highlanders leading the head-to-head series, 18-5.

Last year, graduate student Jahbril Price-Noel's game-high 19 points led the Seahawks to a 62-57 road win over the Highlanders. Trailing 29-27 at the half, the Seahawks turned the game around in the second period.

The Wagner – NJIT Connection

Saturday's game will feature a plethora of familiar faces. Not only did head coaches Donald Copeland and Grant Billmeier coach together at Seton Hall during the 2021-22 season, but the duo also played together for the Pirates, earning NCAA Tournament appearances in 2004 and 2006.

In helping lead the Pirates to an 18-12 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament as a senior in 2005-06, Copeland led the Hall in a host of statistical categories including scoring (16.1 ppg), assists (4.5), steals (41), three-pointers (71) and free-throw percentage (84.4). For the season, he ranked third in the Big East in assists per game (5.1) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.69).

After being named to both the All-Big East and All-Metropolitan Second Teams, Copeland was tabbed as Seton Hall's Senior Male Athlete of the Year.

Additionally, NJIT assistant coach Pete Lappas served as an assistant on Copeland's staff last season.

Promising Depth

10  Seahawks are averaging 10 minutes or more per game, with nine players averaging four points or more through four games.

Scouting The Highlanders

NJIT enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-3 overall record. The Highlanders picked up their first win of the season last week in an 81-72 victory over Delaware State.

Next Up

The Seahawks will travel to Providence on Tuesday, November 28, with tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
