Bonelli Named Rookie Of The Week Again
Freshman
Jaylen Bonelli was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league announced on Monday.
No other newcomer in the NEC has won the award more than twice this season, with Bonelli aiming to become the second-ever NEC Offensive Rookie of the Year, following the footsteps of all-time great quarterback Nick Doscher, who won the award in 2009.
Against LIU, Bonelli hauled in six catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. With 21 seconds to play in the second quarter, Bonelli was on the receiving end of a four-yard strike from quarterback
Steven Krajewski, which tied the game at 14-14 going into halftime.
Bonelli leads all NEC rookies with four receiving touchdowns and 561 receiving yards, with both figures pacing the Seahawks and placing him among the top six overall in the circuit.
Spruill Continues To Impress
Junior running back
Rickey Spruill was named an NEC Prime Performer. Spruill ran for 130 yards and a touchdown against the Sharks, becoming the first Seahawk running back since All-American Ryan Fulse in 2018 to cross the century mark on the ground in three straight games.
Spruill has run for 367 yards while scoring three touchdowns in the last three games and has set a new career-high with 568 yards rushing going into the final week of the season.
With sophomore
Zachary Palmer-Smith sitting at 571 yards, this marks the first time since 2016 that two Wagner running backs have eclipsed 500 yards rushing. In 2016, Denzel Knight and Matthias McKinnon combined for 1,370 yards on the ground.
Riverboat Tom
Wagner is converting 60% of its fourth down attempts on the season, which leads the NEC and is good for 25
th in the country.
Staying Disciplined
The Seahawks rank 32
nd nationally with 48.2 penalty yards per game.
The Cookie Jar
The Wagner defense sits second in the NEC and 39
th nationally with seven interceptions. Wagner is tied for 21
st in the nation with 2 defensive touchdowns on the season, with both touchdowns coming from interceptions.
Captains Lead The Way
The Seahawks' captains also lead the team in most statistical categories. Graduate student quarterback
Steven Krajewski is second in the NEC in passing TDs (12), pasing yards (1,495), and points responsible for (84).
Graduate student linebacker
John Gioia ranks third in the league in tackles with 7.9 tackles per game.
Senior defensive back
Junior Wily ranks 45
th in the country with 0.3 interceptions per game.
The Magic Formula
Wagner's three wins this season have followed a clear pattern. The Seahawks are undefeated on the season when leading at halftime. With another interception by
Junior Wily against Stonehill, Wagner extended its streak of being undefeated under head coach
Tom Masella when Wily picks off the opposing quarterback.
The Series
Saturday's game marks the first-ever matchup between Wagner and Post.
Scouting Post
The Eagles enter Saturday's game with a 1-8 overall record, with their lone victory coming over Franklin Pierce on October 21.
