Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College football team dropped a 17-3 contest to Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at Hameline Field.
Graduate student quarterback
Steven Krajewski led the Seahawks with 236 yards through the air, 126 of which went to freshman
Jaylen Bonelli. A week after becoming the first true freshman to log 100 yards receiving since 2004 and being named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week, Bonelli recorded his second straight game of over 100 yards receiving.
Defensively, the Seahawks were led by graduate student
John Gioia, who recorded 14 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
On a cloudy day at Hameline Field, both teams traded field goals in the first quarter, with freshman
Ryan Liszner setting a new career-high on a 44-yard field goal.
The Blue Devils took the lead on consecutive touchdowns by Isiah Williams to take a 17-3 halftime lead. Despite multiple trips into the red zone, neither team managed to score in the second half, as the Seahawks suffered their first home loss of the season.
Next up, Wagner will take on Stonehill next Saturday, October 28, with tip-off set for noon.
