Staten Island, NY – Wagner College head football coach
Tom Masella has announced the hiring of Stephen Matos and Kamau Dumas.
Matos will serve as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator, while Dumas takes over as Wagner's defensive backs coach.
Matos arrives on Grymes Hill after most recently serving as a senior offensive analyst for head coach Lance Leipold at Kansas.
Prior to his time with the Jayhawks, Matos worked under Leipold at Buffalo, where he worked as an offensive line and defensive line graduate assistant.
No stranger to the Northeast Conference (NEC), Matos coached tight ends at Sacred Heart during the 2018-19 season, instructing the tight ends in drill progression, technique and schemes.
Matos also spent time at Princeton as the offensive line quality control coach (2018), Monmouth as the offensive line quality control coach (2017-18) and Becker College as the offensive line coach/run game coordinator (2016-17).
Matos earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Rutgers Business School in 2013, before earning a Master of Science in Education from the University at Buffalo in 2020.
Dumas joins the Seahawks' coaching staff after coaching at Gannon University during the 2022 season, helping the Golden Knights to an 8-3 record.
A native of Morristown, N.J., Dumas had been serving as the defensive backs coach at McPherson College after beginning his coaching career at his alma mater, Morristown High School, serving as the defensive backs / receivers coach from June 2021 to March 2022.
Dumas is a former All-Big South selection after starting 27 games at Monmouth, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in 2017.
In 2017, Dumas recorded 37 tackles while finishing second on the team with 9 passes broken up. He was also second in interceptions with 3 for 64 yards, including one return for a touchdown. He set the Monmouth record for longest punt return that season with an 89-yard return for a touchdown against Holy Cross that season. He averaged 12.8 yards on 14 punt returns. Monmouth finished 9-3 that year and was selected for the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
He would go on to have a tryout with the NFL's New York Giants, and had an invite to the Baltimore Brigade of the Arena Football League. He later signed with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Football League.
