New York, NY – The Wagner field hockey team dropped a non-conference contest 2-0 to Columbia.
Both teams had numerous chances in the opening quarter to get on the board first, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Graduate student goalkeeper
Daisy Ruhle stopped three shots in the opening 15 minutes while senior
Kira Mordvinov and junior
Natalie Rocuskie tallied one shot on goal each.
Neither team was able to capitalize on chances in the second quarter, Wagner tallied four shots in the quarter as graduate student
Julia Cruces Pastorino tallied the lone shot on target in the quarter.
Daisy Ruhle notched one save in the quarter to keep the game scoreless.
Wagner tallied three shots including two on target in the third quarter as
Julia Cruces Pastorino and senior
Sara Nelson had shots stopped by the Columbia netminder.
As the game entered the final 15 minutes scoreless, Columbia broke the deadlock with 11:09 remaining on a penalty stroke opportunity by Maya Walker.
After the Columbia goal, freshman
Remi Lloyd tallied two quick shots on goal but was unable to level the score for the Seahawks.
With 59 seconds remaining, Maya Walker tallied her second goal of the contest to bring the Lions lead to 2-0. Columbia would hold onto win the contest by the same score.
Daisy Ruhle stopped seven shots in the contest while reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week
Julia Cruces Pastorino rallied four shots and one on target.
The loss brings Wagner to 3-3 on the season.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Friday, September 23 when they welcome Towson to the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex at 3:30 P.M.
