Loretto, PA – The Wagner women's lacrosse team dropped a 2-0 decision in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener.
In the opening 45 minutes, sophomore goalkeeper
Sam Hughes stopped three shots taken by the Red Flash. As a team, the Seahawks had two shots on target in the as junior's
Caitlin Filja and
Kayla Barbosa each tallied one.
Wagner had three corner kick opportunities in the opening 45 minutes while holding Saint Francis to zero.
With the game scoreless entering the second half, Saint Francis tallied the opening goal of the contest in the 54th minute. In the 67th minute, the Red Flash doubled its lead to 2-0.
In the second half,
Sam Hughes tallied three saves as she finished the game with six total. Fifth year senior
Gabby Cipriano tallied the third shot on target for Wagner in the contest as sophomore
Olivia Rubbo and senior
Juliana Rafaniello tallied shots that didn't hit the target.
Senior
Maddie Wilde, fifth year senior
Luisa Barone and
Gabby Cipriano each played 90 minutes in the NEC opener for Wagner.
The loss brings Wagner to 2-7 on the season and ends a three-game road trip.
Wagner will continue NEC play on Thursday, September 22 when they host Central Connecticut State at 7:00 P.M. at Hameline Field.
