This Week In Wagner Athletics; Four Sports In Action As Wagner Weekend Approaches

Staten Island, NY- Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.

As part of Wagner Weekend,
Andrew Bailey (Class of 2006, Baseball), Morgan Miller (Class of 2007, Softball), Phil Thies (Class of 1980, Football), and Heather George (Class of 2006, Women's Lacrosse) will be inducted into the Wagner Athletics Hall of Fame. These former Seahawk greats were selected on the merit of their athletic prowess and overall impact on Wagner's athletic department. The Class of 2022 will be formally inducted this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the VIP Room, located on the second floor of the Spiro Sports Center, before being publicly recognized at halftime of the football game. 

 

Women's Soccer
  • The Wagner women's soccer team will commence NEC play on Thursday, September 15 at Saint Francis U at 2:00 P.M.
   
  • The Seahawks fell to Albany, 4-1, on Sunday, September 11 as sophomore Claire Janis tallied the lone goal for Wagner.
  • Senior Madison Carr leads Wagner with three goals while classmate Isabella Manzella leads the team with two assists heading into NEC play.
  • Sophomore Sam Hughes has started six out of eight games in goal for Wagner, she has 36 saves.

Field Hockey
  • The Seahawks will continue non-conference play on Saturday, September 17 at Columbia at 1:00 P.M.
 
  • Wagner got back in the win column on Sunday, September 11 when they beat Lehigh 4-3 in overtime.
  • Graduate student Julia Cruces Pastorino scored the overtime winner and added a goal in the first quarter.
  • As a result of her efforts against Lehigh, Julia Cruces Pastorino was named NEC Offensive Player of the Week while classmate Agustina Deharbe was named a Prime Performer.
 


Football
  • The Wagner football team will take on Saint Francis U on Saturday as part of Wagner Weekend. Kickoff between the Seahawks and Red Flash is scheduled for 4:00 pm on NECFrontRow. For a full preview, check out wagnerathletics.com later this week.
 
Men's Water Polo
  • The Seahawks concluded the Princeton Invitational with a 1-3 record as they defeated Iona, 16-11, on Saturday, September 10.
  • Freshman Laszio Strasser led Wagner with nine goals in four games this past weekend.
  • Senior Olivér Fodor tallied eight goals and 17 drawn exclusions at the Princeton Invitational.
  • Wagner will begin MAWPC play this weekend against Fordham on Sunday, September 18.
