Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team finished its season with a 3-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday afternoon.
With the win, the Seahawks conclude the 2022 campaign with a 12-12 mark in Northeast Conference play.
Sophomore
Scarlett Lloyd made history in the pitching circle, becoming Wagner's all-time single season leader with 116 strikeouts on the year, breaking a mark set by Krystle Petty's, who struck out 113 batters in 2001.
Lloyd struck out five batters and earned the win after coming on in relief of senior
Kayla Hooks, who threw 3.1 innings to start the game.
Wagner scored all three of its runs in the second inning. After Hooks drew a leadoff walk, junior
Bianca Worthy reached on a bunt single.
Senior
Makenzie Miller loaded the bases with an RBI single to center field, bringing up sophomore
Keaghan Ward, who gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead with an RBI groundout.
Two batters later, senior
Nora Conway came through with a two-run double down the right field line to give the Seahawks a 3-0 advantage.
The Knights scored one run in the third and one run in the top of the seventh, but Lloyd shut the door with two consecutive strikeouts before a flyout to left field gave Wagner the win.
The Seahawks combined for eight hits in the contest, with Conway and Worthy tallying two hits apiece.
