Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner women's lacrosse team fell to Mount St. Mary's, 15-4, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Seahawks fall to 3-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play and snap its three-game winning streak.
The Mountaineers got on the scoresheet on a goal from senior Jordan Groover 21 seconds into the game before senior
Maria Henwood evened the game at one a minute later. Mount St. Mary's went on to outscore Wagner 3-0 the rest of the way in the opening stanza to take a 4-1 lead to the second frame.
The Mountaineers put a stamp on the contest as they outscored the Seahawks 5-1 in the second quarter to take a 9-2 lead into the half time intermission. Graduate student
Stefani Peluso opened the scoring in the quarter, cutting the Mount lead to 4-2 before the hosts launched a 5-0 run to close the first half.
The Mountaineers outscored Wagner 5-1 in the third quarter as the lone goal of the quarter for the Green & White was scored by
Maria Henwood off an assist from classmate
Ally Turner.
Stefani Peluso tallied her second goal of the game in the final stanza, but it wasn't enough as the Mountaineers came away with the victory.
Senior
Aileen Hannan caused four turnovers, tallied four draw controls, and scooped three ground balls while
Stefani Peluso and
Maria Henwood tallied two goals each.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 in a non-conference contest at Rutgers set for 6:00 P.M.
