Piscataway, NJ – The Wagner women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest against Big Ten member #13 Rutgers, 13-11, on Wednesday evening.
The Scarlet Knights opened the contest with two goals in the first two minutes of the contest before sophomore
Kelsey Scheidel got the Seahawks level at two. Both of her goals were unassisted as the opening goal was from a free-position opportunity. After a scoreless seven minutes, the Scarlet Knights reclaimed the lead with 3:54 remaining in the quarter before graduate student

Sophia Colver gave Wagner its first lead of the contest with 41 seconds remaining in the quarter as Wagner ended the opening stanza with a 4-3 lead.
The Scarlet Knights tallied three goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter giving them a 6-4 lead before junior
Sarah Shaughnessy ended the Rutgers run a few minutes later. Both teams tallied one more goal as
Kelsey Scheidel completed her first career hat trick as a member of the Seahawks to cut the Rutgers lead to 7-6 at halftime.

Kelsey Scheidel tallied her fourth goal of the contest to level the game at eight goals apiece. After Rutgers tied the game, senior
Kasey Dorney found the back of the net to give Wagner a 9-8 lead in a seesaw third stanza. For Dorney, it was her 100th career point as a member of the Wagner Seahawks. Following the goal by Dorney, the Scarlet Knights ended the third quarter on a 3-0 run to take an 11-9 lead to the final stanza.
The Scarlet Knights tallied the first two goals of the final stanza to open up a 13-9 lead, its largest of the contest. Senior

Katie Siverson tallied goals for the Seahawks in the final four minutes but it wasn't enough as Wagner fell in the contest.
Kelsey Scheidel notched a career high four goals in the contest to go along with one assist, two ground balls, one caused turnover and one draw control.
Kasey Dorney tallied one goal while claiming her 100th career point, five draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball. Senior goalkeeper
Lauren DiStefano stopped 11 out of 24 shots in the contest.
The Seahawks will return to conference play on Saturday, April 16 at Merrimack at 12:00 P.M.
