Women's Tennis Edged By Mount St. Mary's, 4-3, In Regular Season Finale Monday

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team was edged in their final regular-season contest, 4-3, against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on Monday morning.

With the loss, the Seahawks falter to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Mount moved to 4-10 and 3-3 in conference action.

The Green & White took two of three matches in doubles play to earn the first point of the match. Gabrielle Perraudin and Tara Dakic earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Adrianna Barney/Ana Alvarez-Storni.

After Mount posted a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, the Seahawk pairing of Paula Ysabelle UY and Fidan Khalilzade bested Amber Policare/Ryan McCarthy, 6-2.

In singles action, Mount wasted little time in tying the match at 1-1 after Policare earned a 2-6; 6-3; 6-4 win over Perraudin.

Dakic and Khalilzade rattled off back-to-back wins for the Seahawks, putting Wagner ahead 3-1 in the overall match. Dakic was triumphant in three sets, 6-1; 3-6; 6-1 while Khalilzade rallied back from a 6-0 setback in the first set to win 6-4; 6-3.

Mount St. Mary's would then string together three straight victories, including the deciding 6-2; 3-6; 6-2 winner at No. 6 as McCarthy was able to outlast Uy.

The Seahawks will be the No. 8 seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament, as they will draw the top-seed, LIU, on Thursday, April 14 at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.

First-serve is set for 9:00 a.m.
