Women's Tennis Falls In NEC Quarterfinals; 4-0, To Defending Champs, LIU

West Windsor, NJ - The Wagner College women's tennis season came to a close on Thursday morning as the No. 8 seeded Seahawks fell to the top-seed LIU, 4-0, at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

The Seahawks finished the year 4-12 overall and 1-4 in conference action while the Sharks, the defending four-time league champions, advance to Friday's semifinals, where they will await the winner of the Bryant/St. Francis Brooklyn match. 

The Green & White tandem of Gabrielle Perraudin and Tara Dakic pushed the duo of Sofiya Kuzina and Valentina Dancenco to the limit before Kuzina/Dancenco was able to pick up a 6-4 win at No. 1. 

Victoria Erechtchenko and Elinor Storkaas posted a 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Fidan Khalilzade and Samantha Lugtu to give the Sharks the points as No. 3 doubles between Alegra d'Alessandro/Paula Ysabelle Uy and Bianca Compuesto and Phoebe Watton went unfinished at 5-2 in favor of LIU. 

LIU went ahead 2-0 in the match after Erechtchenko bested Khalilzade, 6-2; 6-1 at No. 3 singles. The Sharks secured the victory with a 6-3; 6-2 win at No. 5 and a 6-1; 6-0 triumph at No. 6.
