Women's Tennis Posts 7-2 Road Win At New Jersey City University On Wednesday

Jersey City, NJ - The Wagner women's tennis team earned their fourth win of the season, as they defeated the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights, 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
With the win, the Seahawks move to 4-6 on the season while the Gothic Knights fall to 1-4.  Each match in Wednesday's contest counted as one decision. 

The Seahawks took a 2-1 lead in the overall match after picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. 

The pairing of Fidan Khalilzade and Samantha Lugtu posted an 8-1 triumph over Vanshita Malhotra and Mila Gligorov at No. 2. The duo of Tara Dakic and Gabrielle Perraudin notched an 8-4 victory at No. 1 over Giada Zorzan and Sara Zorzan. 

Wagner nearly swept the doubles point as Alegra d'Alessandro and Mia Groetsch went to a tiebreaker but was edged by Brittany Waugh and Eliza Clamor, 8-7 (7-5). 

Dakic earned the first singles point to give Wagner a 3-1 advantage as she defeated Clamor, 6-1; 6-0 at No. 2. 

Khalilzade earned her 26th career singles victory after posting a 6-1; 6-2 win over Mila Gligorov at No. 3 singles. For Khalilzade, she moves to within three wins of tying the program mark for career wins, set by Madison Pautsch (2013-17), who finished her Seahawk career with a program-best 29 career singles wins.

Perraudin recorded a 6-2; 6-3 victory over Giada Zorzan at No. 1. Lugtu earned a 6-2; 6-2 win at No. 4 over Malhotra while Groetsch was able to get past Waugh, 6-4; 7-5. 

NJCU was victorious at No. 5, as Sara Zorzan edged out d'Alessandro, 3-6; 6-1; 6-2. 

Due to impending inclement weather, Friday's match with Queens College has been canceled. 

The Seahawks will resume Northeast Conference (NEC) action this weekend as they will head to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, March 26, before closing out the weekend with LIU in Brookville on Sunday, March 27.
