Riverdale, NY – The Wagner College softball team suffered walk-off losses in both games of its non-conference doubleheader at Manhattan on Sunday.
The Seahawks fell 5-4 in game one, before dropping game two 2-1 in nine innings.
Wagner did not trail in either game until the final at-bat, leading for most of the afternoon in both contests.
Game 1 Recap: Manhattan 5-4 Wagner
The Seahawks got on the board in the first inning. After a walk to senior
Natalie Del Ponte, freshman
Kate Wolf hit her second home run of the season, giving Wagner a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, an RBI single by senior
Nora Conway extended the lead to 3-0. After the Jaspers cut into the deficit with one run in the fifth, the Seahawks answered in the top of the sixth inning, as senior
Mackenzie Vogler scored on a double steal to give Wagner a 4-1 advantage.
The Jaspers tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and earned the walk-off victory on an error in the seventh.
In the circle, senior
Eve Harvey suffered the loss after tossing the complete game, striking out three while only giving up one earned run.
Offensively, Conway and sophomore
Scarlett Lloyd both had multi-hit games as the Seahawks combined for seven hits.
Game 2 Recap: Manhattan 2-1 Wagner (9 innings)
The Seahawks once again scored early, as freshman
Justine Carranza's first collegiate RBI brought home Lloyd and gave Wagner a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Lloyd also turned in a solid performance in the pitching circle, allowing just two hits in the first five innings of the game.
Manhattan tied the game in the fourth inning, which eventually forced extra innings.
Consecutive hits by Del Ponte and Wolf gave the Seahawks two baserunners in the eighth inning, while a leadoff double by Vogler to lead off the ninth followed by a sacrifice bunt placed a runner at third base with one out, but Wagner could not capitalize on the scoring opportunities.
The Jaspers won the game on a home run by Annie Moore in the ninth inning to earn the sweep.
Lloyd was charged with the loss after tossing the entirety of game two, while contributing two hits offensively.
Del Ponte led the Green and White with three hits in game two, as Wagner held a 9-4 advantage in hits.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Rider for a doubleheader on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 2:30.
