#14 Women’s Water Polo Claims Conference Victory Over Villanova

Lexington, VA – The Wagner women's water polo team defeated Villanova, 22-7, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The third conference game of the season for Wagner began with a sprint victory for junior Skye Nankervis, her first of three sprint wins of the contest. The Green & White put a stamp on the contest in the opening stanza as they outscored the Wildcats 7-1. Junior Abbey Simshauser, sophomore Mar Navarro, and senior Sofia Diaz Alvarez each tallied two goals in the frame while sophomore Andrea Arias scored once.

The Seahawks carried the momentum from the opening frame into the second as they outscored the Wildcats 6-1. Fifth-year senior and sophomore Grace Coleman each tallied two goals while Abbey Simshauser completed her hat trick and Andrea Arias tallied her second goal of the contest. Wagner took a 13-2 lead into the intermission.

The Green & White outscored Villanova 7-1 in the third quarter as Mar Navarro tallied three goals in the frame giving her five in the contest. Abbey Simshauser tallied her fourth goal of the game and Grace Coleman completed her hat trick. Senior Pip Nash tallied one goal in the quarter while Andrea Arias completed her hat trick as well.
 
Freshman Carlota Alonso claimed a victory in the fourth quarter sprint as she also tallied a goal in the frame while Grace Coleman scored for the fourth time as Wagner claimed their third conference victory in as many tries with a 22-7 victory over Villanova.

Senior goalkeeper and reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Kristina Bell stopped seven shorts in three quarters while classmate Mikaela Wells stopped two shots in one quarter of action. Malia Josephson tallied two goals while dishing out three assists and to go along with three steals. Abbey Simshauser scored four times while dishing out three assists.

The Seahawks move to 38-3 lifetime against the Wildcats and claim their 19th victory in their first 22 games which is a program record. The Green & White also move to 3-0 in MAAC play and 79-5 since 2014 in conference play.

The Seahawks will wrap up the weekend tomorrow, Sunday, March 20 against the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) at 9:00 A.M.
